LSG vs SRH (61st Match) – Highlights
Sunrisers Hyderabad climbed above Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2025 points table with a statement win in Match 61 of the tournament at Lucknow. In a high-octane clash, SRH chased down a steep 206-run target with six wickets in hand and a remarkable 10 balls to spare, thanks to a blistering knock by Abhishek Sharma, who was rightly named Player of the Match.
Put into bat first, Lucknow Super Giants rode on the back of a powerful top-order performance. Together, they composed a duet of destruction—Marsh’s 65 off 39 roared while Markram’s 61 off 38 danced right beside it. Their aggressive approach laid the perfect foundation for a massive total. Nicholas Pooran chipped in with a fiery 45 off 26 balls as LSG surged past the 200-run mark, eventually finishing on 205 for 7 in their 20 overs.
However, what looked like a daunting target was made to look manageable by the sheer audacity of Abhishek Sharma. The left-hander played arguably the innings of the tournament, smacking a jaw-dropping 59 off just 20 deliveries. His innings included 4 boundaries and 6 towering sixes, as he tore into the LSG bowling attack, especially targeting Akash Deep and Ravi Bishnoi. A 295-strike rate? That’s how you kick out a chase with intent. SRH never looked back from there.
Atharva Taide went out early, but Abhishek, with Ishan Kishan, formed a match-winning partnership. Kishan was solid with a 35 from 28 balls, letting Abhishek do all the damage with fluidity and attitude. After Abhishek’s dismissal, Heinrich Klaasen added more fuel to the fire and made sure that the momentum remained with SRH. The South African played quite sensibly and scored a blistering 47 from 28 balls, getting SRH within touching distance of the target. Mendis played a vital hand in the middle phase, scoring a brisk 32 from 21 before an injury cut his innings short.
Digvesh Rathi was the only bright spot in an otherwise forgettable outing for the LSG bowlers. The leg-spinner claimed two wickets, including the big one of Abhishek, while conceding 37 in his four overs. Shardul Thakur and Will O’Rourke chipped in with a wicket each, but LSG’s bowling effort lacked discipline, conceding nine wides and a few expensive overs at key junctures.
SRH’s bowling unit had its share of struggles as well. Harshal Patel and Harsh Dubey were both expensive, conceding over 10 runs per over. However, Eshan Malinga bowled an impressive spell, picking up 2 for 28 in his four overs and keeping LSG from getting 15-20 extra runs, which could have made a difference.
