SF vs MI NY (14th Match) – Highlights
Under the lights at Dallas on June 23, the SF put on an absolute batting clinic to hand MI NY a 47-run defeat in the 14th match of the 2025 Major League Cricket. With this commanding win, SF further cemented their place at the top of the points table, while MI New York were left grappling with an inconsistent campaign.
The star of the night was undoubtedly Matthew Short, who led from the front with a blistering 91 off just 43 balls. Right from the outset, Short looked in ominous touch. Supported by Tim Seifert’s steady 26 off 22 balls, the Unicorns made full use of the powerplay and reached 86/1 by the 9th over. Seifert fell to a good catch by Nicholas Pooran, but that only brought more fireworks.
Jake Fraser-McGurk entered and tore into the bowling like a man with a deadline. His 64 off 26 balls was filled with audacious strokeplay and clean ball-striking. Seven towering sixes rained down on the Dallas crowd as MI New York’s bowlers had no place to hide. Kieron Pollard did pull things back momentarily with two wickets, but San Francisco’s batting depth was on full display. Sanjay Krishnamurthi and a breathtaking cameo from Hassan Khan—who smashed 31 off just 9 balls—ensured that the innings ended on a monstrous 246/4. The final over brutality from Hassan was the cherry on top, with a strike rate of 344 that left the opposition stunned.
MI NY began their chase needing a miracle. Quinton de Kock and Monank Patel gave their fans fleeting hope. With a 119-run opening salvo, the duo hijacked the narrative and made it their own. With 70 runs carved like fine sculpture, De Kock brought finesse, while Monank bulldozed boundaries under fire with a fearless 60. However, once Patel fell to Liam Plunkett in the 10th over, the chase began to unravel.
Pooran failed to fire, scoring a sluggish 15 off 17, and was caught behind off Haris Rauf. De Kock soon followed, dismissed by Romario Shepherd, and with him went the last realistic hope for MI New York. Shepherd, who had a fine outing with the ball, finished with figures of 2 for 30, while Bartlett chipped in with two late wickets to seal the contest. Pollard’s late fury lit up the scoreboard, but MI New York still ran out of road chasing a mountain in Dallas.
Matthew Short was rightly named Player of the Match for his scintillating knock and his all-round presence on the field. The SF now look like a team that not only wants to top the table but dominate the league.
