SEO vs WSF (4th Match) – Highlights
The fourth match of Major League Cricket 2025 at Oakland turned out to be a one-sided affair as Washington Freedom romped to a five-wicket win over the Seattle Orcas. With the win coming in just 13.3 overs, Washington made a powerful statement, anchored by Ian Holland’s match-winning spell and a blazing start from their top order.
With Warner striking like thunder and Mayers roaring like surf, the Orcas rode a tidal wave of boundaries right from ball one. The left-handed duo smashed 60 runs inside the first six overs, giving the Orcas a solid platform. Warner was in vintage touch, hammering 31 off 17 balls, while Mayers added 27 off the same number of deliveries. However, once the openers departed in quick succession, Seattle’s momentum crumbled.
The middle order failed to capitalize. Steven Taylor, Heinrich Klaasen, and Aaron Jones got starts but couldn’t convert them into meaningful scores. Klaasen’s dismissal for 17 in the final over of the Powerplay marked the turning point, as Washington’s bowlers tightened the screws. Ian Holland emerged as the star of the innings, delivering a devastating spell of 4 for 19. He accounted for Klaasen, Jones, Harmeet Singh, and Cameron Gannon, ripping through the middle and lower order with precise seam bowling and smart variations.
Sikandar Raza’s sluggish 15 off 26 only added to Seattle’s woes as the team lost wickets at regular intervals, eventually ending on a subpar total of 145 for 9 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 146, Washington Freedom came out with intent. Wasting no time, Mitchell Owen hammered a rapid 25 off 11 balls to launch his team’s innings in style. But the real damage was done by Rachin Ravindra, who played a brutal cameo of 44 off just 18 deliveries, striking four boundaries and four sixes. The left-hander completely dismantled Seattle’s pace attack, forcing captain Klaasen to shuffle his bowlers quickly.
Seattle briefly clawed back with wickets from Obed McCoy, Waqar Salamkheil, and Harmeet Singh, but it was too little, too late. As captain, Glenn Maxwell made sure Washington’s chase stayed on track without any stumbles. His composed yet destructive knock of 38* from 20 balls, including three sixes, steered the chase with minimum fuss. Washington crossed the finish line in just 13.3 overs, with 39 balls to spare—an emphatic win by any measure.
The Player of the Match award fittingly went to Ian Holland for his four-wicket haul, which derailed Seattle’s innings after a promising start. His disciplined bowling was the difference-maker, supported well by Jack Edwards and Mitchell Owen.
For Seattle, it was a case of lost momentum and missed opportunities. After a flying start, their inability to build partnerships and a lack of sting in the bowling department hurt their chances. With two losses from two, the Orcas will need to regroup quickly. Washington, on the other hand, look well-balanced and confident as they move up the table.
