SL vs BAN (3rd ODI) – Highlights
The hosts finished strong in Pallekele, outplaying Bangladesh by 99 runs to seal a 2-1 series win. Everyone could see that Sri Lanka outplayed Bangladesh in all aspects of the game, given the perfect century from skipper Kusal Mendis, and a complete bowling performance for their home fans.
Batting first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka put up a competitive total of 285 for 7 in their allotted 50 overs. While the innings began on a cautious note with the early dismissal of Nishan Madushka, it was Kusal Mendis who anchored the innings with a masterclass in tempo and strokeplay. The captain struck 124 off 114 balls, laced with 18 boundaries, and formed key partnerships—first with Pathum Nissanka, who chipped in with 35, and later with Charith Asalanka, who added a composed 58.
Although Sri Lanka lost some wickets near the end of the inning, their lower order chipped in with some aggressive swings. Dushmantha Chameera blasted a quick 23 off 12, with Hasaranga contributing a steady unbeaten 18. Both batsmen finished with some momentum. The best bowlers from Bangladesh were Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed, both with two wickets; Shamim Hossain and Tanvir Islam, only one.
In pursuit of 286 to win, Bangladesh had an awful start, losing three wickets in the first four overs. Najmul Hossain Shanto went for a duck, and Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon couldn’t make anything out of their starts. While Chameera and Asitha Fernando rattled through the top order with their pace, the onus was on the middle order to dig Bangladesh out of a hole.
Towhid Hridoy showed some resistance with a gritty 51 off 78 balls, holding the innings together briefly alongside Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who scored a quick 28. However, the constant fall of wickets made sure Bangladesh never really got ahead in the chase. The Sri Lankan bowlers were relentless, with Asitha Fernando and Chameera sharing six wickets between them. Spin duo Dunith Wellalage and Hasaranga contributed two wickets each, wrapping up the tail in no time.
Sri Lanka cruised to a series win in this match, where Bangladesh was bowled out for 189 in 39.4 overs. This a match that showed the depth and balance of this Sri Lanka team, with both batters and bowlers stepping up to the plate under pressure. For Bangladesh, the collapse of their top and bottom order will be a worry, especially if you consider their next scheduled duty is international cricket.
