MINY vs LAKR (27th Match) – Highlights
In what turned out to be one of the most tightly contested matches of the 2025 Major League Cricket season, MI New York pulled off a thrilling 6-run win over Los Angeles Knight Riders at Lauderhill. The low-scoring affair was packed with drama, standout individual performances, and a dramatic final act that kept the spectators on the edge of their seats.
MINY was asked to bat first, and they got off to a poor start, with Quinton de Kock falling first ball. Monank Patel looked to build an anchor but could only contribute 13 runs before he fell to Corné Dry. Captain Nicholas Pooran showed signs of counterattack with a brisk 30 off 24, lacking just a little in timing, and fell just as he was starting to accelerate. MI were sinking fast, but Pollard dropped anchor, raised cannons, and sailed straight into T20 greatness—again.
Pollard took charge with a classy 50 off 36 balls, striking four sixes and providing the much-needed momentum. Michael Bracewell and George Linde chipped in with useful runs, but LAKR’s bowlers kept striking at regular intervals. Shadley van Schalkwyk emerged as the most successful bowler with figures of 3 for 24, while Jason Holder and Corné Dry picked up two wickets apiece. MI New York finished with 142 for 9 from their 20 overs—a total that looked slightly under par on a flat Lauderhill surface.
Chasing 143, LAKR struggled to find fluency in their batting. Andre Fletcher was run out early, and Alex Hales could never get going, crawling to 21 off 26 balls before falling to the spin of Nosthush Kenjige. However, Unmukt Chand was the glue that held the innings together. His knock of 59 off 48 balls, studded with five boundaries, kept LA in the hunt.
Thanks to Rutherford’s composed 29 off 28, the Knight Riders started closing in on the win. But MINY hit the over and over again with timely wickets. Kieron Pollard, when he came back with the ball, took care of Rutherford and stalled LA in the 18th over. Unmukt Chand also made the shocking decision to retire at the end of the 19th over when there was too much to do. A twist in the tale turned gold into gravel, with LA Knight Riders stranded 6 runs from glory.
The win was powered by Pollard’s all-round brilliance—his match-defining fifty and a crucial spell of 1 for 12 in two overs earned him the Player of the Match award. MI New York’s bowling unit operated as a tight collective, with Kenjige standing out with figures of 1 for 14 from his three overs.
This result strengthens MI New York’s playoff hopes as they jump to fourth place on the table, while the LA Knight Riders continue to languish near the bottom, their campaign hanging by a thread.
