SFU vs TSK (25th Match) – Highlights

In one of the most gripping encounters of the 2025 Major League Cricket season, the SFU held their nerve to edge past the TSK by just one run at Lauderhill. A match that swung like a pendulum till the final delivery ultimately rewarded the Unicorns for their discipline and clutch moments of brilliance. Matthew Short’s composed 80 off 63 balls and a collective bowling effort helped San Francisco defend 148 in a thrilling contest.

Opting to bat first, San Francisco had a shaky start with Finn Allen falling in the second over for just 1. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Sanjay Krishnamurthi followed soon after, leaving the Unicorns wobbling at 19 for 3. Amidst the early chaos, skipper Matthew Short stood tall and orchestrated the innings with calm authority. He stitched together a vital 69-run stand with Hassan Khan, who played an explosive knock of 40 off 25 balls, laced with two fours and three sixes. The pair helped rebuild the innings, setting a platform for a competitive total.

Marcus Stoinis was the standout with the ball for Texas, picking up 3 for 32, including the crucial wickets of Short, Krishnamurthi, and Khan. Akeal Hosein was economical, conceding only 18 runs in his four overs. Despite a late flourish from Romario Shepherd and Hammad Azam, the Unicorns finished at 148 for 6 from their allotted 20 overs.

Early dismissals put the Texas Super Kings on the back foot at the start of their innings. Both openers, Faf du Plessis and Smit Patel fell cheaply to Brody Couch, putting the Super Kings under early pressure at 15 for 2. Saiteja Mukkamalla tried to anchor the innings with a steady 34, but the Unicorns’ bowlers maintained tight lines and did not allow Texas to break free.

The middle overs were characterized by slow accumulation, with Marcus Stoinis struggling to find momentum. Shubham Ranjane added a measured 28 off 27 balls, while Donovan Ferreira’s explosive 39 off just 20 balls threatened to take the game away from the Unicorns. His counterattack brought Texas back into contention, especially as he found the boundary with ease. Romario Shepherd turned the tide for SFU by removing both Ferreira and Ranjane in rapid succession.

With 15 needed off the final over, TSK pushed hard but could only manage 13 runs, falling heartbreakingly short. Calvin Savage’s run-out on the last ball sealed the one-run win for the Unicorns. Brody Couch led the bowling charge with 2 for 26, while Shepherd’s all-round contribution was pivotal.

Matthew Short’s steady captain’s knock, which held the innings together amidst early setbacks, deservedly earned him the Player of the Match award. The victory strengthens San Francisco’s hold at the top of the table, while Texas will rue the missed opportunity in a match they nearly clinched.
