Cricket Highlights, August 03: Pakistan tour of West Indies 2025 (3rd T20I) – PAK vs WI

PAK vs WI (3rd T20I) – Highlights

Lauderhill turned into Lahore-on-the-Atlantic as Pakistan cranked up the drama and walked away with the series crown. The match was a run-fest, with both sides showing aggressive intent, but it was Pakistan’s disciplined finish with the ball that made the difference.

PAK batted first after winning the toss and got off to a fiery start, courtesy of a commanding 138-run opening partnership between Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub. The duo took calculated risks and punished anything loose, setting the tone early in the powerplay. Farhan played the role of the aggressor, smashing 74 off 53 balls with five sixes, while Ayub wasn’t far behind, scoring 66 from 49 deliveries. Their strokeplay was a delight to watch—measured, yet fearless.

The innings wobbled early, but Hasan Nawaz came in swinging like a street brawler—short stay, maximum chaos. Mohammad Haris, however, fell cheaply due to a sharp run-out by Gudakesh Motie. Finishing duties were admirably handled by Khushdil Shah and Faheem Ashraf, who added a brisk 21 runs in the final overs to propel Pakistan to an imposing 189 for 4.

The WI chase began with intent. Youngster Jewel Andrew came out swinging, scoring a quick 24 before falling to Haris Rauf. Alick Athanaze was the standout performer for the Windies, anchoring the innings with a stylish 60 off 40 balls. His timing and placement were impeccable, especially through the off-side. While Shai Hope failed to make a mark, Sherfane Rutherford kept the hopes alive with a powerful 51 from 35 balls, combining brute force with clever placement.

The chase seemed within grasp until the 17th over when Roston Chase was controversially retired out, followed by Jason Holder’s golden duck courtesy of a ripping delivery from Sufiyan Muqeem. From that point, the pressure mounted, and Pakistan tightened the screws. Muqeem, in particular, was outstanding, returning figures of 1 for 20 in his four overs and proving difficult to get away.

Despite some late fireworks from Gudakesh Motie, who struck a six and a four in his 10-run cameo, the West Indies fell short, finishing on 176 for 6. Pakistan’s bowlers held their nerve in the death overs, with Haris Rauf and Sufiyan Muqeem leading the charge. Saim Ayub’s contribution with the ball—a surprise twist—proved crucial, picking up the dangerous Athanaze.

With this win, PAK clinched the T20I series, showcasing a blend of attacking batting, innovative bowling changes, and improved fielding. The emergence of new stars like Farhan and Muqeem offers promising signs for the Men in Green as they gear up for future challenges.
