Cricket Highlights, August 02: Pakistan tour of West Indies 2025 (2nd T20I) – PAK vs WI

PAK vs WI (2nd T20I) – Highlights

The T20I series was leveled 1-1 after West Indies defeated Pakistan on the last ball of a dramatic match in Lauderhill, Florida, Wednesday. The hosts registered their first-ever two-wicket victory on the strength of an amazing all-round performance by Jason Holder.

Pakistan struggled badly just after they were sort of forced to bat first. Both Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan perished cheaply to a sharp Jason Holder, and Haris didn’t last long either, leaving the visitors reeling at 21 for 3 after 5 overs. Fakhar Zaman looked solid for a bit but was also dismissed by Roston Chase just as he found his feet.

Salman Agha, the captain, and a somewhat aggressive Hasan Nawaz stabilized the innings after the shaky start. With these two at the crease, the pair produced a useful partnership of 60 runs, which brought Pakistan’s innings back from the brink of disaster, as Pakistan’s innings had looked like a total trainwreck not long before. Nawaz’s aggressive 40, which included four massive sixes, contrasted with Agha’s calm and steady 38 off 33 balls. After the Kane-Agha partnership was broken, Jason Holder came back and dismantled the Pakistan lower order and ended with 4 for 19. Pakistan’s batting faltered, resulting in a modest total of 133 for 9 in their allotted overs.

In reply, the West Indies were also in early trouble as Mohammad Nawaz picked up three wickets in the power play. The left-arm spinner got rid of Athanaze, Andrew, and Captain Shai Hope in a brilliant four overs that produced 3 for 14. When the hosts were reduced to 70 for 5 in the 14th over, it looked like Pakistan had the game under control. But Gudakesh Motie gave the innings some impetus with a counter-attacking knock of 28 off 20 balls, including a couple of big hits that put pressure back on Pakistan.

Saim Ayub, turning into a part-time hero, picked up two vital wickets to tighten the screws. As the required rate climbed, the West Indies needed calm heads. That’s when Jason Holder, already the star with the ball, walked in with 38 runs still needed from 25 balls. Alongside Romario Shepherd, he launched a late assault that swung the pendulum again. Though Shepherd fell with seven balls left, Holder held his nerve and found a way to guide his team home. With two runs needed off the final delivery, Holder calmly nudged a single and benefited from an overthrow that sealed the win.

Jason Holder’s all-round show—4 wickets, two catches, and an unbeaten 16 off 10—earned him the Player of the Match award. It was a vintage performance under pressure and highlighted why he remains one of the West Indies’ most trusted match-winners.

With the series now tied 1-1, all eyes turn to the third and final T20I, where both teams will aim to clinch the trophy in what promises to be another nail-biter.
