A composed and commanding unbeaten 68 from Alishan Sharafu, coupled with incisive bowling spells led by Haider Ali, propelled the hosts to a memorable victory in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.
Put in to bat under the Sharjah lights, Bangladesh’s innings got off to a blistering start thanks to Tanzid Hasan’s whirlwind 40 off just 18 deliveries. The left-hander blazed away with four fours and four sixes, flaying the UAE attack during the powerplay. However, the momentum was quickly derailed when Parvez Hossain Emon fell for a golden duck, triggering a mini-collapse. Bangladesh’s middle order crumbled under sustained pressure. Mahedi Hasan struggled for timing, and Shamim Hossain could not build on his start. Chasing 163, UAE suffered an early blow when their skipper Muhammad Waseem perished for 9, attempting an aggressive start but falling to Shoriful Islam. However, that early loss did little to unsettle the hosts. Muhammad Zohaib kept the scoreboard ticking with a fluent 29 before Rishad Hossain struck to end his stay.
From that point, it was the Alishan Sharafu show. The stylish right-hander anchored the chase with poise and maturity well beyond his years. Displaying deft placement, quick running, and timely aggression, Sharafu crafted an unbeaten 68 off 47 balls, finding boundaries when needed and rotating the strike cleverly. His 65-run partnership with Asif Khan (41* off 26 balls) was the game’s turning point. Asif, ever the aggressor, unleashed five sixes to finish the match in a blaze of glory in the penultimate over.
Bangladesh’s bowling, although disciplined at times, lacked the penetration required to defend a par total on a true Sharjah wicket. Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Rishad Hossain, and Shoriful Islam claimed a wicket apiece, but their efforts weren’t enough to prevent the hosts from racing to 166/3 in just 19.1 overs.
Sharafu was rightly named Player of the Match for his match-winning innings, while captain Muhammad Waseem, with 145 runs across the series, took home the Player of the Series accolade.
This landmark win marks one of the UAE’s most notable T20I series victories in recent history, showcasing their rise as a competitive force in international cricket. Bangladesh, meanwhile, will return home with lessons to reflect on, particularly around middle-order stability and bowling execution under pressure.
