SCOT vs NEP (Match-03) – Highlights
Nepal pulled off a nail-biting two-wicket win over Scotland in the third match of the Scotland T20I Tri-Series 2025, held at Titwood, Glasgow, on June 17. In a low-scoring thriller that went down to the penultimate ball, Sandeep Lamichhane produced a match-winning performance with a magnificent four-wicket haul, while Nepal’s batters held their nerve in a tense chase.
Batting first after losing the toss, Scotland endured a collapse that left them struggling throughout their innings. Opener George Munsey got off to a brisk start with 8 off 5 balls but fell early to Karan KC, who dismissed him in the second over. Mark Watt and Liam Naylor could not provide stability, while Brandon McMullen (10 off 12) and Finlay McCreath (2 off 6) also failed to capitalize on their starts.
The one standout in Scotland’s batting was Michael Leask, who played a composed and valuable knock of 46 runs off 46 balls. He anchored the innings with resilience, striking four boundaries and one six, preventing a complete collapse. However, a lack of support from the rest of the lineup meant Scotland could only post 97 runs before being bowled out in 19.4 overs.
Sandeep Lamichhane was the star with the ball for Nepal. The leg-spinner bamboozled the Scottish middle and lower order, finishing with sensational figures of 4 for 11 in four overs, including a maiden. Dipendra Singh Airee (2/24), Karan KC (2/20), and Lalit Rajbanshi (1/22) complemented him well, collectively suffocating Scotland’s run flow and triggering regular breakthroughs.
In pursuit of a modest 98-run target, Nepal made a shaky start and nearly crumbled under pressure. Openers Kushal Bhurtel (30 off 35) and Lokesh Bam (9 off 5) provided early momentum, but wickets fell at regular intervals. Bhurtel held the innings together until the 13th over, after which the middle order struggled to rotate strike.
Dipendra Singh Airee (14 off 21) and Basir Ahamad (13 off 14) made vital contributions in the middle, while tailenders Karan KC and Lamichhane ensured Nepal crossed the finish line despite a dramatic late collapse. The innings saw Nepal slip from 75/4 to 98/8, highlighting the intense pressure during the chase.
Scotland’s bowlers put up a spirited fight, nearly pulling off a remarkable defense. Safyaan Sharif led the charge with 2 for 13 in 2.5 overs, while Michael Leask also delivered with the ball, taking 2 for 21. Jack Jarvis and Mark Watt chipped in with one wicket each, applying pressure throughout the innings. Jasper Davidson also bowled with discipline, conceding just 19 runs and picking up a key wicket.
Despite the defeat, Scotland showcased a determined bowling performance and will look to regroup ahead of their next match. Nepal, on the other hand, will draw confidence from their ability to hold firm under pressure and will aim to build on this thrilling win.
Sandeep Lamichhane was deservedly named Player of the Match for his match-defining spell, which proved to be the turning point in a tightly contested fixture.
