HKG vs BAN (3rd Match) – Highlights

Bangladesh kicked off their Asia Cup 2025 campaign with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Hong Kong in the third match of Group B at Abu Dhabi. Chasing a modest target of 144, the visitors showcased a balanced batting performance, led by an outstanding innings from captain Litton Das, and a disciplined bowling effort that kept Hong Kong’s batsmen in check throughout the 20 overs. This win not only gave Bangladesh an early momentum in the tournament but also highlighted their depth in both batting and bowling.

Hong Kong won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 143 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings had a shaky start, with Anshy Rath departing early for just 4 runs. Zeeshan Ali showed some resistance, scoring 30 runs off 34 balls, but it was Nizakat Khan and Yasim Murtaza who held the innings together, contributing 42 and 28 runs respectively. Despite their efforts, the Hong Kong middle and lower orders struggled to accelerate the scoring consistently.

Mahedi Hasan bowled tightly, conceding 28 runs in four overs, while Tanzim Hasan Sakib made a significant impact, taking two crucial wickets for just 21 runs. Taskin Ahmed also impressed with figures of 2 for 38, breaking key partnerships at vital moments. Rishad Hossain provided a breakthrough with two wickets, maintaining pressure on the Hong Kong batsmen in the death overs.

Chasing 144, Bangladesh got off to a decent start but lost early wickets, with Parvez Hossain Emon falling for 19 and Tanzid Hasan departing for 14. The key moment came when Litton Das, the Bangladesh captain and wicketkeeper, anchored the innings with a composed yet aggressive knock of 59 off 39 balls. His innings was filled with controlled aggression, including six boundaries and a towering six, allowing Bangladesh to maintain a healthy scoring rate. Towhid Hridoy complemented him well, staying unbeaten on 35, which ensured Bangladesh reached the target comfortably in 17.4 overs, leaving 14 balls to spare. This clinical chase reflected the team’s maturity in handling pressure situations in T20 cricket.

Bangladesh’s bowling unit also deserves credit for its smart strategies and execution. Taskin Ahmed and Tanzim Hasan Sakib provided early breakthroughs, while the spinners controlled the middle overs effectively. Mustafizur Rahman and Mahedi Hasan maintained tight lines, preventing Hong Kong from building any substantial partnerships. The fielding was sharp, with a crucial run-out of Yasim Murtaza turning the game slightly in Bangladesh’s favor during the later stage of the Hong Kong innings.
