IND vs AUS (2nd ODI) – Highlights

In a gripping second ODI at the Adelaide Oval, Australia held their nerve to edge past India by two wickets, chasing down a target of 265 with 22 balls to spare. The match had everything: a solid Indian top order start, an Adam Zampa masterclass in the middle overs, and a nerveless finish led by the emerging duo of Cooper Connolly and Mitchell Owen. With this victory, Australia took a 2-0 lead in the series and extended its dominance at home against a spirited Indian unit.

IND’s innings began with a familiar sense of stability, led by skipper Rohit Sharma, who anchored the top order with a fluent 73 off 97 balls. His innings was a blend of timing and patience, highlighted by seven boundaries and a pair of sixes. Despite early jolts Shubman Gill nicking off for nine and Virat Kohli falling lbw for a duck to Xavier Bartlett, Rohit and Shreyas Iyer rebuilt the innings with a composed 118-run partnership. Iyer’s 61 off 77 showcased his usual ability to rotate strike and pick gaps, but just as India seemed poised for acceleration, Zampa broke through with his guile.

Adam Zampa’s spell of 4 for 60 turned the tide. He dismissed Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul, and Nitish Kumar Reddy in a decisive burst that halted India’s momentum between overs 30 and 45. Axar’s aggressive 44 off 41 kept IND afloat, and late cameos from Harshit Rana (24 not out) and Arshdeep Singh (13) ensured a fighting total of 264 for 9. The Australian bowlers, led by Bartlett (3 for 39) and Starc (2 for 62), complemented Zampa’s control with relentless pressure. Hazlewood, despite going wicketless, was miserly with figures of 10-2-29-0, showing once again why he’s among the most dependable white-ball seamers in the world.

Chasing 265, AUS found themselves under early pressure when Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana struck in quick succession to remove Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head. But Matthew Short’s 74 from 78 balls provided the platform AUS needed. Short batted with authority, mixing crisp drives with smart running, and along with Matt Renshaw (30 off 30), kept the hosts in control. However, India clawed back through Washington Sundar’s double strike, dismissing Carey and Owen in a tight middle-over phase.

At 187 for 5, the game was evenly balanced, but the 21-year-old Cooper Connolly rose to the occasion. His unbeaten 61 off 53 balls was mature beyond his years, showing a perfect mix of composure and aggression. When wickets fell around him, Connolly stayed calm, finding gaps, rotating strike, and finishing in style with Adam Zampa at the other end. Owen’s cameo of 36 from just 23 balls had provided the late thrust Australia needed, pushing them ahead decisively before the final overs.
