KKR vs CSK (57th Match) – Highlights
In a nail-biting clash at Eden Gardens on May 7, 2025, Chennai Super Kings pulled off a thrilling two-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 57 of the Indian Premier League. Chasing a competitive target of 180, CSK held their nerve till the very end, crossing the line with just two balls to spare. Noor Ahmad was the standout performer for Chennai, claiming four crucial wickets and earning the Player of the Match award for his game-changing spell.
KKR won the toss, chose to bat first and had a decent score of 179 for 6 in 20 overs. KKR lost the unfortunate Rahmanullah Gurbaz early and Sunil Narine was quick with 26 runs in 17 balls. KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane anchored the innings well with 48 runs out of 33 balls. Andre Russell provided some fast scoring as well with 38 runs in twenty-one balls to ensure KKR was able to get past 170 runs.
Manish Pandey was not out at the end with 36 runs to finish the innings on a high. In the CSK bowling attack what stood us standing by Noor Ahmad who scored 4 wickets and only went for 31 runs in 4 overs. The other wickets for CSK were wickets each for both Ravindra Jadeja and Anshul Kamboj. The CSK bowlers put the KKR under some pressure with some disciplined periods of bowling and did a good job in defending the KKR batsman by containing their scoring and ensuring they did not disappear on them completely.
CSK started their chase terribly, as both of their openers Ayush Mhatre and Devon Conway got dismissed for 0. Just when CSK seemed to be recovering, Urvil Patel came in and put the game completely out of reach for KKR with a very short but violent innings of 31 runs off 11 balls which included 4 sixes. With CSK continuing to lose wickets at a rapid rate, Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube finally managed to steady the ship. Brevis produced his best IPL innings to date slamming a blistering 52 off 25 balls and Dube was calm and cool with his 45 off 40 balls.
As the match drew to a close, KKR looked like they were coming back into the match with some quick wickets from Varun Chakravarthy and Vaibhav Arora. However, none was more reliable than the MS Dhoni of old, who finished 17 not out with a slight assist from the number 11 Anshul Kamboj, who hit a four off his first ball to seal the match and win it for CSK.
KKR’s bowlers showed moments of brilliance, particularly Varun Chakravarthy, who was outstanding with figures of 2 for 18 from his four overs. Vaibhav Arora was also impressed, picking up three wickets despite being slightly expensive. However, the defending in the death overs left much to be desired, and CSK capitalized on the lapses with smart running and calculated aggression.
The win takes Chennai Super Kings further up the points table and reinforces their reputation as a team that can win from any situation. For Kolkata, the loss will sting, especially after putting up a strong batting display. However, the form of Rahane and Russell will be positive to build on in the remaining matches.
