GT vs KKR (39th Match) – Highlights
In an exciting IPL 2025 match played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, GT defeated KKR by 39 runs and won the points for the match. There was much action in this 39th of the season on the back of the scintillating 90 from GT captain Shubman Gill, and the committed bowling effort from GT meant KKR never really looked like it at mercy chasing a target of 199.
GT, of course, opted to bat when asked to do so, and it didn’t take long for the elegant left-hander Sai Sudharsan and ever-reliable Shubman Gill – they came out all guns blazing and built a lovely opening partnership of 114 runs. Sudharsan put together a lovely but brisk 52 off 36 balls, with six fours to boot and a six, before falling to Andre Russell. Gill finished the day with a classy 90 off just 55. He had ten boundaries and three sixes to steer GT to a very heavy target.
Jos Buttler, playing in the middle order, provided the late surge with a quickfire 41 not out off just 23 balls. His knock ensured that Gujarat Titans reached 198 for 3 in their 20 overs. While KKR bowlers tried their best to contain the flow of runs, they were let down by inconsistent lines and a lack of wickets at regular intervals. Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana managed one wicket apiece, but the Titans batting unit had already done the damage.
Facing a challenging target of 199, KKR had a poor start and were dealt an early blow in the first over when Rahmanullah Gurbaz fell to Mohammed Siraj for just 1 run. Sunil Narine tried to inject some urgency into KKR’s innings, but his batting stint was limited to just 17, when he was out to Rashid Khan. The only true resistance to the Gujarat Titans came by the way of captain Ajinkya Rahane, who made a composure 50 off 36 balls, however, none of this mattered as wickets kept falling around him.
Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh started well but could not convert and make any real impact on the innings. Andre Russell played a cameo innings, hitting 21 off 15 balls before losing his wicket stumped by Rashid Khan. KKR’s middle and lower order fell apart while the Titans increased the required run rate, and the disciplined bowling of the Titans had an impact.
Rashid Khan and Prasidh Krishna were the standout bowlers for Gujarat, both picking up two wickets each and maintaining excellent economy rates. Mohammed Siraj, Ishant Sharma, Washington Sundar, and Sai Kishore also chipped in with a wicket apiece, ensuring there was no breathing space for the KKR batters.
