SA vs ZIM (2nd Test) – Highlights

South Africa wrapped up a dominant Test series with a crushing innings-and-236-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second and final Test in Bulawayo. The hosts were completely outplayed in all departments as Wiaan Mulder delivered one of the most complete all-round performances in recent memory.

After winning the toss, South Africa opted to bat first, and despite early hiccups at 24 for 2, the innings turned into a one-man demolition courtesy of skipper Wiaan Mulder. Walking in at a precarious stage, Mulder launched a relentless assault on the Zimbabwean bowlers, finishing with a monumental unbeaten 367 off just 334 balls, laced with 49 fours and four sixes. He was well supported by David Bedingham (82), Lhuan-dre Pretorius (78), and Kyle Verreynne (42*), as South Africa declared on a mammoth 626 for 5.

Zimbabwe’s bowlers were made to toil, with Tanaka Chivanga and Kundai Matigimu picking up two wickets apiece, but at the cost of heavy damage. Wellington Masakadza also chipped in with one wicket, but no bowler could contain the South African juggernaut as the visitors scored at a brisk rate of 5.49 runs per over.

Faced with an enormous first-innings total, Zimbabwe crumbled under pressure in their reply. Sean Williams was the only standout performer, blasting 83 off 55 balls in a counterattacking effort. However, the rest of the batting lineup offered little resistance, and Zimbabwe were bundled out for 170. Prenelan Subrayen was the chief destroyer with figures of 4 for 42, while Mulder (2/20), Yusuf (2/20), and Bosch (1/27) shared the remaining spoils.

Following on, Zimbabwe showed more grit in the second innings but still lacked the temperament to mount a meaningful resistance. Nick Welch (55), Craig Ervine (49), and Takudzwanashe Kaitano (40) offered brief flickers of hope, but the collapse was inevitable. A combined bowling effort saw Zimbabwe dismissed for 220, with Bosch (4/38) striking hard and Muthusamy, Yusuf, and Mulder cleaning up the rest.

The win capped off a remarkable Test series for South Africa, and especially Wiaan Mulder, whose aggregate of 531 runs and seven wickets firmly established him as the standout player. For Zimbabwe, the gulf in class was evident, and while Sean Williams’ efforts stood out, the team will need significant introspection to compete at this level.
