SO vs WF (26th Match) – Highlights
Result of Major League Cricket 2025 Match 26: WF v SO. In a one-sided contest, Washington Freedom beat Seattle Orcas by 8 wickets and 64 balls remaining. Washington consistently bowled well with aggressive batting to earn an ample victory and kept their hot streak going in this tournament.
Washington’s bowlers turned the pitch into a courtroom—and Seattle’s batters kept losing the argument. The Orcas’ top order failed to build any momentum, with wickets falling regularly and early. Shayan Jahangir was dismissed for a duck in the very first over, caught behind off the bowling of Saurabh Netravalkar. Steven Taylor, Aaron Jones, and Sikandar Raza, who also captained the side, couldn’t make much impact as the pressure kept mounting. Glenn Maxwell, who was the star of the match, wreaked havoc with his brilliant spell, taking 3 crucial wickets for just 12 runs in his 4 overs. His accuracy and variations made it difficult for the Orca’s batsmen to settle.
Despite a fighting knock from Heinrich Klaasen, who top-scored with 48 runs off 39 balls, including four boundaries, the Orcas never really looked in control. Their innings folded for a mere 82 runs in 17.4 overs, well short of a competitive total in the T20 format. The Washington bowlers, led by Maxwell, Netravalkar, and Jack Edwards, executed their plans flawlessly, keeping the Orcas’ batsmen under constant pressure. Netravalkar’s 3 wickets and Edwards’ 3 wickets supported Maxwell’s efforts superbly, restricting the Orcas to a below-par score.
Chasing a modest target, WF wasted no time in asserting its dominance. The chase started steadily with Mitchell Owen contributing 6 runs before falling early, but Rachin Ravindra and Mukhtar Ahmed quickly took control. Ravindra played an aggressive knock, scoring 32 runs from 23 balls, including four boundaries and a six, setting the foundation for a smooth chase. Mukhtar Ahmed was the star with the bat, smashing a blistering 36 off just 21 deliveries, including two fours and three sixes. His striking ability completely shifted the momentum in Washington’s favor.
Washington successfully reached their target with only a couple of overs remaining. Only two wickets fell as Washington comfortably completed their run chase. Andries Gous was not out on 8 runs when Washington had 5 balls remaining to reach their target, so there was no worry about finishing the chase. Overall, the Freedom’s batting showed a cool, calm, and clinical approach to batting in the chase, and demonstrated again why they are one of the best in the competition. The margin of the convincing victory of 64 balls to spare also demonstrated Washington’s ability to completely outclass Seattle on the day.
Glenn Maxwell’s all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match. His bowling was exceptional, dismantling the Orcas’ top and middle order, while his captaincy showed tactical brilliance. Maxwell’s ability to lead from the front gave Washington the edge it needed in this encounter.
