SA vs AUS (2nd T20I) – Highlights

A dominant all-round effort saw South Africa beat Australia by 53 runs in the second T20I at Darwin, bringing the series to 1-1. The night belonged to Dewald Brevis, who lit up the Marrara Oval with a breathtaking unbeaten 125 off just 56 balls, an innings that combined raw power with exquisite timing. His knock, laced with 12 fours and 8 sixes, will be remembered as one of the finest individual T20I performances in recent years.

Batting first, South Africa faced an early wobble with Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton, and Lhuan-dre Pretorius departing inside the powerplay. But Brevis took charge from the moment he arrived at the crease. He paced his innings perfectly, accelerating after settling in and taking full advantage of Australia’s erratic bowling. Tristan Stubbs played an important supporting role, making 31 off 22 balls in a 126-run stand with Brevis for the fourth wicket that shifted the game decisively in South Africa’s favor. The Proteas eventually finished on 218 for 7, a total that looked imposing on the two-paced Darwin surface.

For Australia, Ben Dwarshuis was the standout with the ball, taking 2 for 24 in his four overs and managing to keep a lid on the scoring rate during his spells. The rest of the bowling attack, however, took heavy punishment, with Josh Hazlewood leaking 56 runs and Adam Zampa conceding 46. Glenn Maxwell chipped in with two wickets but also went for 44 runs.

In reply, Australia’s chase started with promise as captain Mitchell Marsh struck a brisk 22 off 13 balls. Bosch and Maphaka choked the scoring with timely wickets. Tim David briefly threatened to pull off a miracle with a blistering 50 off just 24 balls, smashing four fours and four sixes, but his dismissal to Kagiso Rabada ended any realistic hopes for the hosts. Alex Carey tried to keep the fight alive with 26 from 18 balls, but regular wickets meant Australia never truly recovered from the mounting run rate.

Bosch proved lethal with figures of 3 for 20 in his three overs, striking at key moments to dismiss Marsh, Dwarshuis, and Zampa. The young speedster Maphaka went for 57 runs but made up for it with three crucial wickets, one of them being Glenn Maxwell. Ngidi and Peter also chipped in with a wicket apiece as South Africa bowled Australia out for 165 in 17.4 overs, sealing a comfortable victory.
