If you’re an Indian cricket fan, hopefully, you’ve had a second to breathe after that nail-biter at The Oval. India edged past England by just six runs to square the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at 2-2, and now. silence. Not even early morning Test alerts on your phone, nor those last-day nail-biters – at least for a few weeks. So, the big question is, when are the Men in Blue back? Let’s find out!
A Month-Long Breather Before the Asia Cup Madness
First things first—India isn’t rushing straight into another series. After a long and grueling five-match Test battle in England, the players have earned themselves a month-long break. That means no cricket (well, no international cricket) until the Asia Cup kicks off.
Remember that Bangladesh tour everyone had penciled in for August? Well, it’s been kicked down the road to September 2026. That’s now been scheduled for September 2026. Hence, the next time you see Rohit Sharma and Company, all dressed in Indian blues, will be September 10, 2025, when they play the United Arab Emirates in Dubai.
Timing? 7:30 PM IST (local 6:00 PM)—perfect for prime-time viewing with your evening snacks. And really, who doesn’t love a good UAE underdog story to kick off a tournament? Sure, India is the defending champion and heavy favorite, but there is something about early tournament jitters that makes for interesting cricket.
Asia Cup 2025: A Group A Firecracker
Now this is where it gets interesting. India finds itself in Group A with Pakistan and Oman—so go ahead and mark your calendar, because the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash is set for September 14 in Dubai.
If you have followed cricket long enough, you will appreciate that this is not just any old fixture. This is a mini-final, pure adrenaline, and is probably the most watched sporting event of the year in the region. Pakistan’s bowling attack is buzzing, and India has a deep batting lineup – they will be put to the test early.
India’s last group match is against Oman on September 19. Oman has been silently but surely improving in the limited-overs, T20 arena, and even though India is expected to win, this is just the type of tournament where upsets can happen. Remember, Hong Kong almost gave India a scare back in 2018? Do not underestimate the so-called minnows.
The Road to the Super Four and Beyond
The format of the Asia Cup is straightforward but unforgiving. The top two teams in each group will advance to the Super Four stage, where all of the matches feel like knockout rounds. Make a mistake in one match, and the road to the final becomes very uncertain.
India, as defending champions and the most successful team in the tournament’s history (eight titles!), is going to want to come out strong and maintain its momentum. A win against the UAE will give them a nice start, a win against Pakistan will unleash enormous confidence, and then a victory against Oman will put them in the Super Four rounds safely.
The Super Four matches will decide which two teams battle it out in the final on September 28—also in Dubai. If India makes it there, they’ll be aiming not just to defend their crown but to stamp authority ahead of the T20 World Cup next year. And let’s be honest—winning a tournament that includes Pakistan in the mix? Always a little sweeter.
So, save the date, set the calendar, and look for some finger snacks. September is going to be a fun month.
