When a bowler collects a hat-trick in the IPL, it is something magical. In a format that favors batters who can hit sixes and fours, a hat-trick stops the entire crowd from cheering! If a hat-trick is rare, then what is even rarer? Bowlers getting a hat-trick more than once! It is an exclusive club. Recently, the newest addition to the club is Yuzvendra Chahal. So, let’s take a look at that exclusive club and talk about three great bowlers who have collected multiple hat-tricks in the IPL.
Yuzvendra Chahal – The Latest Hat-Trick Hero
Yuzvendra Chahal
To begin with, here is the most recent IPL star, Yuzvendra Chahal. Known for his clever leg-spin and management, Chahal has been one of the top bowlers in T20 cricket and is now a member of the hat-trick club. The Rajasthan Royals’ clever leg-spin bowler bowled Kolkata Knight Riders out in the process of claiming three big names in Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Mavi, and Pat Cummins.
Fast forward to IPL 2025, Chahal showcased another performance to remember this time for the Punjab Kings. He took the wickets of Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad in quick succession against the Chennai Super Kings; Chahal recorded his second IPL hat-trick. His match figures were bonkers at 4-32, coming from three overs that put the nail in the coffin for Punjab Kings, and fans continued to marvel at Chahal’s incredible talent and control. With two hat-tricks under his belt to date, it is very evident that Chahal is a force to be reckoned with.
Amit Mishra – The IPL Hat-Trick King
Amit Mishra
Amit Mishra is the only player in IPL history and current big four cricket history to claim three hat tricks, and his hat tricks were of a different class. Mishra’s first hat-trick came in 2008 for the Delhi Daredevils (now known as the Delhi Capitals) when he dismissed Ravi Teja, RP Singh, and Pragyan Ojha, with figures of 5-17.
His second hat-trick was in 2011 when he played for Deccan Chargers against Punjab Kings, where he had the wickets of Ryan McLaren, Mandeep Singh, and Ryan Harris in his hat-trick. Mishra’s third hat trick came in 2013 when he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Pune Warriors, when he dismissed Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rahul Sharma, and Ashok Dinda. The fact that he completed hat-tricks with three different teams only provides him enough distance from being the most hat-trick king in IPL history.
Yuvraj Singh – A Blast from the Past
Yuvraj Singh
Let’s not forget the all-rounder who raised eyebrows not only for his explosive batting, but surprise for his bowling excellence: Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj is well known around the world for hitting sixes in the IPL, but did you know Yuvraj is one of the rare few that has two hat-tricks? Both were during the 2009 edition.
The first came against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Durban, where Yuvraj took the wickets of Jacques Kallis, Robin Uthappa, and Mark Boucher. Later that season, Yuvraj got another hat-trick against the Deccan Chargers in Johannesburg, taking the wickets of Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Symonds, and Venugopal Rao. It is a shame that we hardly see Yuvraj bowl these days, but moments like these will always be remembered, and his legacy as one of the greatest all-rounders in IPL’s history is eminent.
So, there you have it, three IPL bowlers who have managed to secure some hat-tricks and recorded their names in the record books. Yuvraj Singh, Amit Mishra, and Yuzvendra Chahal have all displayed that even the T20 format still requires bowlers to remain relevant, proving that if skill is combined with timing, the game will eventually shift from one side to another. Which IPL bowler do you think is the best hat-trick bowler of all time? Let us know in the comments, and make sure to look out for more hat-tricks as the IPL continues to leave us spellbound!
