MS vs PZ (Match – 25) – Highlights

Peshawar Zalmi put on a strong performance to easily defeat Multan Sultans by seven wickets in the 25th match of the PSL, played under the lights at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Monday night. This big win gave Zalmi new hope of reaching the playoffs and showed how powerful their bowling attack was, as they bowled out the Sultans for a very low score in front of their home fans.

The foundation of Zalmi’s triumph was laid by their fast bowler, Ahmed Daniyal, who was named Player of the Match for his outstanding figures of 3 for 12. His incisive spell ensured Multan were bundled out for a mere 108 in 19.1 overs, marking their third-lowest score of the season. The chase was clinical, as Zalmi overhauled the modest target with 42 balls remaining.

After electing to bat first, Multan endured a dismal start. Both openers—Yasir Khan (10) and captain Mohammad Rizwan (17)—were sent back within the powerplay. Yasir was dismissed by the left-arm spin of Saim Ayub, while Luke Wood accounted for Rizwan with a sharp delivery, leaving the Sultans in early disarray.

A brief resurgence came through Tayyab Tahir and Shai Hope, who added 26 runs for the third wicket. Tayyab struck a few crisp boundaries in his 22 off 18 deliveries, while Hope matched him with a composed 23 off 21 balls. However, just as the pair began to stabilize the innings, Daniyal returned to dismantle Tayyab’s stumps, triggering a middle-order collapse.

The damage deepened as left-arm spinner Maaz Sadaqat tightened the noose. He dismissed Ashton Turner for a duck in the 10th over and followed it up by bowling Muhammad Amir Barki in the 12th. The collapse continued when Ali Raza removed Shahid Aziz just two balls later, reducing the home side to 66 for 6.

Shai Hope tried to counterattack with a couple of boundaries and a maximum, but his resistance was short-lived. Alzarri Joseph, the West Indian paceman, sent him packing in the 15th over. From there, the tail offered minimal resistance. Daniyal and Wood polished off the remaining wickets efficiently, as Multan folded for just 108. Aside from Daniyal’s heroics, Maaz Sadaqat (2 for 12) and Wood (2 for 18) were instrumental, collectively conceding only 30 runs for four wickets.

Zalmi’s chase did not begin flawlessly, as they lost Mitchell Owen in the opening over. However, Saim Ayub bounced back to form in spectacular fashion, blasting 49 off just 33 balls, studded with four boundaries and three towering sixes. Although Shahid Aziz managed to remove both Babar Azam (8) and Ayub to briefly stall Zalmi’s momentum, the outcome was never in doubt.

Max Bryant guided the team home with an unbeaten 38, displaying composure and flair with five fours and a six. His calm knock ensured there were no further hiccups as Zalmi reached the target in just 13 overs. To secure a spot in the playoffs, PZ must clinch victories in both of their remaining group-stage fixtures—an achievable goal given their current form and renewed confidence.
