Naeem contributed a handy 25 off 22 deliveries, while Fakhar was the top-scorer with a well-crafted 44 off 30 balls, laced with five boundaries and two maximums.
Fakhar later joined hands with Abdullah Shafique (22 off 17) to take the score to 97 for 2 by the 11th over. However, both batters were dismissed by Imad Wasim, Islamabad’s most economical bowler of the night, who returned with tidy figures of 2 for 26. Daryl Mitchell continued the assault in the middle overs, hammering 28 off just 18 balls before being caught off Ben Dwarshuis in the 17th over.
In the final phase of the innings, Lahore shifted into top gear as Sikandar Raza and Sam Billings launched a brutal assault. The duo amassed 64 runs from just 23 balls, lifting the Qalandars to an imposing total. Raza’s blistering 39 came off 17 balls, featuring three sixes and as many fours, while Billings remained unbeaten on a powerful 38 off 17, which included four massive sixes.
In response, Islamabad United’s chase never gained real momentum. Despite a promising 69-run stand between Andries Gous (41 off 27) and Salman Ali Agha (36 off 25) for the second wicket, their innings crumbled spectacularly. After losing Salman to Sikandar Raza in the 10th over, United lost nine wickets for just 41 runs in 44 balls. Gous, Azam Khan, and Jason Holder were all dismissed in quick succession, with Haris Rauf picking up a double-wicket over to dismantle the middle-order.
Raza continued his golden outing by dismissing both Dwarshuis and Shadab Khan in the 16th over, while Haris Rauf cleaned up Naseem Shah to seal a commanding win.
Lahore Qalandars will now carry this momentum into their highly anticipated clash against the in-form Quetta Gladiators in Thursday evening’s match, also set to be held at the Gaddafi Stadium. With both sides finding their rhythm, fans can expect another thrilling contest.
