IND vs WI (2nd Test) – Highlights
Delhi witnessed another exhibition of India’s growing dominance in red-ball cricket as they brushed aside a spirited West Indies by seven wickets to clinch the second Test and seal the series 2-0. It was a match rich with individual brilliance, batting depth, and the artistry of spin — with Kuldeep Yadav’s magical eight-wicket match haul headlining India’s triumph at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
After winning the toss and opting to bat, India’s top order took full control of proceedings. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s marathon 175 stood as a statement of temperament and timing. The young opener, coming off an impressive run of form, combined patience with fluency, building the foundation for India’s mammoth 518 for 5 declared. Shubman Gill, leading from the front as captain, anchored the innings with a serene unbeaten 129, while Sai Sudharsan (87) and debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy (43) added valuable runs in partnerships that deflated the West Indian attack. The only solace for the visitors came through Jomel Warrican’s disciplined spell, which earned him three wickets.
The WI reply never truly gathered momentum. Despite brief resistance from Alick Athanaze (41) and Shai Hope (36), Kuldeep Yadav’s clever variations broke the backbone of their innings. His 5 for 82, ably supported by Ravindra Jadeja’s 3 for 46, saw the Caribbean side crumble for 248. India, unsurprisingly, enforced the follow-on.
The second innings, however, was a different story. WI batted with a rare sense of pride and perseverance. John Campbell played the innings of his career, compiling a fluent 115 filled with crisp drives and calculated aggression. Shai Hope, too, rediscovered his Test match rhythm, compiling a resolute 103 that steadied the middle order. Their 165-run partnership for the third wicket was the highlight of West Indies’ fightback, showcasing patience against a relentless spin assault. But once both fell, Kuldeep Yadav (3 for 104) and Jasprit Bumrah (3 for 44) ensured there was no miracle comeback. West Indies folded for 390, setting India a modest 121-run target.
In their chase, IND made light work of the total despite minor hiccups. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s early dismissal and a couple of late wickets by Roston Chase did little to alter the inevitable. KL Rahul looked in total command, finishing unbeaten on 58, while Sai Sudharsan continued his promising start with a well-crafted 39. The hosts cruised home at 124 for 3, wrapping up victory midway through the fourth day.
Kuldeep Yadav was deservedly named Player of the Match for his eight wickets across both innings, a performance that reaffirmed his value as IND strike spinner in home conditions. Ravindra Jadeja, whose all-round consistency across both Tests proved decisive, took home the Player of the Series award.
This win not only extended India’s impeccable home record but also underlined the seamless transition of their next generation of cricketers. The West Indies, while showing signs of resilience, will return home knowing that moments of promise were overshadowed by India’s all-round mastery.
