PAK vs BAN (2nd T20I) – Highlights
BAN held their nerve in a pressure-filled contest at the Shere Bangla Stadium, clinching an eight-run win over PAK to square the series. It was a match with bowlers dominating, fielders taking their chances to catch some, and every run counted. Jaker Ali brought stability with the bat, the bowlers did their bit with tidy spells, and Bangladesh showed heart to defend a modest 133 — setting up a winner-takes-all final clash.
After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, the top order of BAN once again failed to come together, and they lost four wickets in the first six overs at 28 for 4. Mohammad Naim and Litton Das offered no resistance, and Towhid Hridoy was run out for a duck in a mix-up that embodied Bangladesh’s disarray. However, during the collapse, Jaker Ali and Mahedi Hasan put together an important stand of 53 runs to pull Bangladesh back into the game.
Jaker Ali finished the innings with a measured 55 off 48 balls, including just one four but clearing the boundary five times– the sixes being more valuable than the fence. Mahedi Hasan had the other half-century score, contributing 33 from 25 balls, and two of his sixes. Their scores helped build Bangladesh to a below-par yet competitive total of 133. Salman Mirza combined an excellent bowling spell for Pakistan with a final bowling figure of 4-1-17-2 from 4 overs. Their figures matched, and so did their influence — two wickets each for Daniyal and Afridi.
PAK chase began disastrously. Their top order capitulated under pressure, losing five wickets for just 15 runs inside five overs. Shoriful Islam’s fiery opening spell accounted for both Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Haris, while Saim Ayub was run out following a sharp bit of fielding. The collapse continued as Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mahedi Hasan joined the party, dismissing Mohammad Nawaz and skipper Salman Agha cheaply.
Pakistan’s hopes of chasing down the target were revived by Faheem Ashraf, who played a blinder under pressure. His 51 off 32 balls, laced with four boundaries and as many sixes, swung momentum back in Pakistan’s favour. Abbas Afridi and Ahmed Daniyal chipped in with cameos, but Bangladesh’s bowlers kept their composure. Shoriful returned to dismiss Abbas, and Mustafizur Rahman held his nerve at the death to remove Daniyal and seal the win with four balls remaining.
Mahedi Hasan, who was named Cricinfo’s MVP, not only picked up two wickets for 25 runs but also made a key contribution with the bat. The official Player of the Match, however, went to Jaker Ali for his stabilising knock that laid the foundation for Bangladesh’s total.
The win brought Bangladesh back into the series, setting up a mouth-watering finale. For Pakistan, the middle-order failure despite Faheem’s brilliance remains a concern. With momentum now with the hosts, all eyes will be on the final match to see who takes the series.
