PAK vs BAN (1st T20I) – Highlights
Bangladesh started the T20I series against Pakistan with a comprehensive seven-wicket win in the series opener at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. Chasing a low target of 111, the hosts secured victory in 15.3 overs with an accomplished unbeaten half-century from Parvez Hossain Emon and a disciplined bowling performance from Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed.
Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first; however, they failed to get into a rhythm throughout their innings. Key contributions were needed, and although only Saim Ayub (2) and Mohammad Haris (3) were the ones to depart cheaply, with Captain Salman Agha struggling, Hasan Nawaz (2) and Mohammad Nawaz (2), PAK found themselves courting trouble at 46 for 5 after 8 overs.
Khushdil Shah tried to rebuild with a patient 17, while Abbas Afridi showed some fight lower down the order with 22 off 24 balls. However, the middle and lower order could not withstand the pressure from Bangladesh’s bowling unit. Taskin Ahmed was sharp and effective, picking up three wickets, while Mustafizur Rahman’s spell of 4 overs for just 6 runs with two wickets completely strangled the scoring rate. Pakistan were eventually bundled out for 110 in 19.3 overs.
With Tanzid and Litton gone early, Bangladesh’s innings looked more like a rescue mission than a run chase. But Parvez Hossain Emon stepped up with a match-defining knock. Showing great composure and timing, he smashed 56 not out from 39 balls, including five sixes and three fours. Emon’s ability to absorb pressure and then shift gears was crucial in Bangladesh’s smooth chase.
Towhid Hridoy offered solid support with a well-paced 36, anchoring the innings before being bowled by Abbas Afridi. The game was virtually decided by the time Jaker Ali partnered Emon at the crease. Jaker added a quickfire 15 not out off 10 balls to help Bangladesh seal the win with 27 balls to spare.
Salman Mirza was the only bright spot for Pakistan with the ball, claiming two wickets in his 3.3 overs. However, the lack of support from the other bowlers and the absence of scoreboard pressure made it an easy outing for the Bangladeshi batters.
The Player of the Match award went to Parvez Hossain Emon for his unbeaten 56. With this emphatic win, Bangladesh go 1-0 up in the series and will look to carry the momentum into the second T20I.
