Cricket Highlights, July 13: Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka 2025 (2nd T20I) – BAN vs SL

BAN vs SL (2nd T20I) – Highlights

An authoritative showing from BAN in the second T20I at Dambulla saw them rout SL by 83 runs and even the series. The visitors put on an almost perfect display that had the opposition looking for answers to many problems, led by an accomplished half-century from Litton Das and professional bowling from Rishad Hossain and Shoriful Islam.

Opting to bat first, BAN faced early hiccups as openers Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon fell cheaply within the first two overs. With the scoreboard reading just 7 for 2, the pressure was on skipper Litton Das to steady the innings—and he delivered brilliantly. Combining control with aggression, Litton anchored the innings with a commanding 76 off 50 balls, striking five sixes and a boundary. He received valuable support from Towhid Hridoy, who chipped in with 31 from 25 balls to revive the innings through a 69-run partnership.

Shamim Hossain’s explosive 48 off just 27 balls shifted momentum further in Bangladesh’s favor during the death overs. His clean hitting, marked by five fours and two sixes, ensured Bangladesh breached the 170-mark. Despite a fine spell from Binura Fernando, who picked up three wickets for 31 runs, Sri Lanka failed to contain the runs. The visitors eventually posted a challenging total of 177 for 7 in their 20 overs.

SL’s chase began in disarray as their top order crumbled under pressure. Early wickets, including the dismissals of Kusal Perera and Avishka Fernando, saw the host’s slump to 30/4 within the first six overs. Pathum Nissanka was the only batter to resist, scoring a fighting 32 off 29 balls, but lacked support from the other end. Skipper Charith Asalanka’s poor run continued as he was dismissed for just 5.

Like a silent assassin, Rishad Hossain snuck in 3 for 18 while Bangladesh’s bowlers squeezed the life out of the innings. The pacers, Shoriful Islam and Mohammad Saifuddin, chipped in with two wickets each, exposing Sri Lanka’s middle and lower order. Mustafizur Rahman also joined the party, bagging a wicket and keeping the runs down with an economy of just 4.66.

Proving his value once again, Litton Das made a significant impact behind the stumps with two catches and two stumpings to secure the Player of the Match title. Sri Lanka’s innings crumbled quickly after Nissanka’s dismissal, folding for a paltry 94 in just 15.2 overs—their second-lowest T20I total at home.

With this emphatic win, Bangladesh not only levelled the series 1-1 but also gained a significant boost in confidence heading into the decider. The win showcased their batting depth and bowling discipline, especially in the absence of big-name finishers.
