WI vs AUS (2nd T20I) – Highlights
AUS flexed their T20 muscles with an authoritative eight-wicket win over WI in the second T20I at Sabina Park, Kingston on July 22, 2025. With a commanding chase completed in just 15.2 overs, the Aussies not only leveled the series but sent a clear message about their firepower heading into the final game.
WI, after being put in to bat, started brightly thanks to Brandon King’s fluent 51 off 36 balls. The right-hander, known for his crisp timing, took advantage of the powerplay, finding the boundary regularly with three fours and four sixes. However, despite the aggressive start, the Windies kept losing wickets at crucial junctures. Shai Hope, promoted up the order, never got going and fell for a scratchy 9 off 13 balls. Hetmyer and Chase tried to rebuild but found the going tough against Adam Zampa, who spun a web around the middle order.
Zampa was the pick of the bowlers for Australia, ending with figures of 3 for 29, which included the key wickets of King, Chase, and Rutherford. Glenn Maxwell also chipped in with two scalps, removing Hope and Hetmyer with his clever off-spin. The West Indies innings saw a late surge from Andre Russell, who blasted a brutal 36 off just 15 balls, smashing four sixes and two boundaries. His fireworks, combined with Gudakesh Motie’s quickfire 18* off 9 balls, propelled the hosts to a seemingly competitive 172/8 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 173, AUS made their intent clear from the outset. Although they lost Glenn Maxwell early, caught by Shai Hope off Jason Holder, and then skipper Mitchell Marsh for 21, the duo of Josh Inglis and Cameron Green made sure there were no further hiccups. What followed was a masterclass in aggressive T20 batting.
Josh Inglis, who was later named Player of the Match, played one of the most explosive knocks of his career. His unbeaten 78 off just 33 balls was laced with seven fours and five sixes, and he made batting look effortlessly brutal. Cameron Green complemented him perfectly, hammering 56 not out from 32 balls, a knock studded with three boundaries and four towering sixes. The pair added 131 runs for the third wicket, completing the chase with 28 balls to spare.
The West Indian bowlers had no answers to the onslaught. Alzarri Joseph went for 50 in his three overs, while Motie and Russell were taken apart with ease. Akeal Hosein tried to keep things tight, but the Aussie batters had already seized control of the game.
