AUS vs. WI (3rd Test) – Highlights

The third and final Test between WI and AUS at Kingston ended in a dominant victory for Australia by 176 runs, sealing the series emphatically. The match showcased Australia’s bowling supremacy and exposed some serious vulnerabilities in the West Indies batting line-up. Mitchell Starc was the undisputed star of the match and the series, earning both Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards for his destructive bowling performances.

With 225 on the board, AUS stayed in command of the match. One powered through the trenches, the other painted with patience—Green and Smith’s 46 and 48 were chess moves, not slogfests. Despite some early breakthroughs by West Indies bowlers Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph, Australia’s middle order managed to chip in useful runs, preventing the innings from collapsing prematurely. The West Indies bowling attack, although disciplined at times, could not contain the Australian batsmen effectively enough to restrict them to a lower total.

WI struggled immensely with the bat in their first innings, managing only 143 runs. Australia’s formidable pace attack—featuring Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins, and Boland—consistently troubled the Windies batsmen throughout the innings. Starc’s lethal spell, particularly his six-wicket haul, dismantled the home side’s batting order. While John Campbell showed some resistance with 36 runs, the rest of the lineup faltered under pressure. Scott Boland’s 3 wickets also played a crucial role in keeping the West Indies’ total low. The hosts found runs hard to come by, and their inability to build partnerships cost them dearly.

In the second innings, Australia went down to 121 all out within 37 overs. For the West Indies, Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph made contributions early on with early wickets and a relentless push against the Australian top order. Cameron Green contributed again with a fighting 42, but the support was very flimsy, and the Windies bowlers dominated. Although Australia showed fight, they now had a long way back into the match, and it left Australia far too comfortable.

The final West Indies innings was a catastrophe. Chasing a target of 204, the Windies were bowled out for just 27 runs, their lowest total of the match. Mitchell Starc’s devastating spell in the second innings, where he claimed 6 wickets for just 9 runs, completely dismantled the Windies’ batting lineup. The rapid dismissals highlighted the lack of composure and technique against high-quality pace bowling. Only Justin Greaves managed to reach double digits with 11 runs before falling to Scott Boland’s accurate bowling. The collapse was brutal and ensured Australia’s comprehensive victory.

Mitchell Starc was rightly named Player of the Match and Player of the Series, finishing with 15 wickets and valuable runs. His ability to swing the ball both ways and his relentless accuracy proved too much for the West Indies batsmen across all innings. The series win will give Australia confidence as they prepare for upcoming fixtures, while West Indies will need to address their fragile batting if they are to be competitive in future matches.
