Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders (Match 16) – Highlights
Kolkata Knight Riders topped the points table by defeating Delhi Capitals in the run festival match. Shreyas Iyer’s team got a victory by a big margin of 106 runs. This is the ninth-highest win in terms of runs in IPL history. The biggest win was by Mumbai Indians. In 2017, they defeated the Delhi Daredevils by 146 runs.
On Wednesday (April 3), Kolkata bowled out Delhi for 166 runs after scoring 272 runs. Sunil Narine was Man of the Match. They are now at the top of the points table with 6 points from three wins in three matches. Rajasthan Royals are two behind in net run rate despite the equal number of points. Delhi is at number 9 with 2 points.
Delhi was in danger after losing 4 wickets for 33 runs in the run chase at Vizag. Prithvi Shaw 10, Mitchell Marsh 0, Abishek Porel 0, and David Warner were out for individual 18 runs. Then Rishav Pant and Tristan Stubbs took the lead. Pant scored 28 runs in one over of Venkatesh Iyer. The Delhi captain departed after scoring 55 runs after forming a partnership of 93 runs with Stubbs. He hit 4 fours and 5 sixes in 25 balls.
After that, no one but Stubbs could even fight. The Proteas hard hitter departed after playing an innings of 54 runs off 32 balls in Varun Chakaravarthy’s over. His innings had 4 fours and as many sixes. Among the rest, Sumit Kumar scored 7 runs and Anrich Nortje scored 4 runs. Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakaravarthy took 3 wickets each for Kolkata. Mitchell Starc took 2 wickets. Andre Russell and Narine got 1 wicket each.
Earlier, Kolkata lost 7 wickets and scored 272 runs due to the rampage of Narine, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Russell and Rinku Singh. Narine gave the team a flying start. Kolkata scored 50 runs in just 3.5 overs. When Phil Salt was dismissed for 18 off 12 balls in the third ball of the fifth over, KKR’s collection stood at 60.
Even if salt was out, the storm continued for a long time. Raghuvanshi and Narine combined to give Delhi bowlers a breather. This pair added 102 runs in just 8 overs. Narine was dismissed by Marsh in the third ball of the 13th over. The Caribbean all-rounder scored a career-best 85 off 39 balls with 7 fours and sixes before being dismissed.
Raghuvanshi also did not last long after Narin’s departure. He became a victim of Anrich Nortje in the next over. Kolkata’s collection then stood at 176! The 18-year-old Delhi-born Raghuvanshi scored 54 runs off 27 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. After Sunil Narine, another Caribbean Andre Russell also created a storm that day. He added 56 runs off 24 balls in partnership with Shreyas Iyer.
Rinku joined the run festival when Shreyas Iyer departed after scoring 18 runs off 11 balls. He played a cameo of 26 runs off just 8 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes. At that time, it seemed that Kolkata would break the record for the highest team collection in the IPL. But Russell left after Rinku’s departure. He could not stop Ishant Sharma’s brilliant yorker. Russell scored 41 runs off just 19 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes before getting out.
Kolkata lost quick wickets towards the end. In the end, they stopped at 272 runs. Anrich Nortje has been the most successful bowler for Delhi. He took 3 wickets with 59 runs in 4 overs. Ishant Sharma took 2 wickets with 43 runs in 3 overs. Khalil Ahmed and Mitchell Marsh shared 1 wicket each.
