The stage is set for a blockbuster India-Pakistan clash as the two Asian giants prepare to battle for the gold medal in the men’s cricket event at the Asian Games 2026. The final will be played on October 3 at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan, with both sides entering the contest after contrasting semi-final victories.

India stormed into the final with a 124-run victory over Sri Lanka, posting 169/7 before bowling their opponents out for just 45. Ishan Kishan was the star with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 80 off 46 balls. Meanwhile, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by six wickets in a rain-shortened semi-final, with Abdul Samad and Hasan Nawaz producing important contributions during the chase.

With a gold medal at stake, several quality batters could influence the outcome.

Here are 3 batters to watch out for in Asian Games 2026 Final:

1. Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan heads the list after producing one of the most impressive batting performances of the tournament in the semi-final against Sri Lanka.

Coming in during India’s innings, Kishan took the attack to the Sri Lankan bowlers and remained unbeaten on 80 off just 46 deliveries. His innings contained four fours and five sixes, while he maintained a strike rate of 173.91.

What made Kishan’s knock particularly significant was the manner in which he accelerated during the latter stages. He was willing to attack both pace and spin, using his power against deliveries in his hitting arc. His ability to score quickly also allowed India to finish with a competitive total despite losing wickets at regular intervals.

Kishan’s experience in high-pressure T20 cricket could be valuable against Pakistan. The left-hander has the ability to disrupt bowling plans early and can change the complexion of an innings within a few overs.

Pakistan’s bowlers will therefore need to be disciplined against him, particularly once Kishan gets his eye in. If he manages another fast start, India could put Pakistan under significant pressure.

2. Abdul Samad

Abdul Samad has emerged as one of Pakistan’s key batting options heading into the gold-medal match.

Pakistan’s semi-final against Bangladesh was reduced to 13 overs per side because of rain, and the chase became complicated after the team slipped to 53/4. Samad then joined Hasan Nawaz and helped Pakistan recover, eventually finishing unbeaten as the side reached the target with nine balls remaining.

Samad’s ability to attack under pressure makes him an important player for Pakistan. In a shortened game, he demonstrated that he can score quickly while also taking responsibility during a difficult chase.

Pakistan have several attacking options in their squad, including Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Hasan Nawaz and Usman Khan. However, Samad’s finishing ability gives the team another dimension in the middle and lower-middle order.

The India-Pakistan final could once again produce a situation where a few overs of aggressive batting determine the result. If Samad gets an opportunity in the middle overs, his ability to clear the boundary could prove significant.

3. Sahibzada Farhan

Pakistan captain Sahibzada Farhan is another batter who will be under the spotlight in the final.

Farhan was dismissed early in Pakistan’s semi-final against Bangladesh, but his importance to the team’s batting unit extends beyond that single innings. As captain and an opening batter, he is expected to provide Pakistan with momentum at the top of the order.

Pakistan’s squad for the final includes Farhan alongside Saim Ayub, Usman Khan, Hasan Nawaz and Abdul Samad, giving the side several attacking batting options.

Farhan’s role will be especially important against India’s new-ball attack. India have Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Abhishek Sharma among their bowling options, while the squad also includes Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi.

A strong start from Farhan could allow Pakistan’s middle order to play with greater freedom. On the other hand, an early dismissal would put additional responsibility on the likes of Saim Ayub, Hasan Nawaz and Samad.

The Pakistan captain will therefore be keen to make his presence felt in what is one of the biggest matches of the tournament.
