Rishabh Pant has had a crazy season, but not the fun and fast one. More like, the Why is this happening? One, however, Aiden Markram is absent from LSG’s last match, IPL 2025 – what a great opportunity! A golden opportunity! This has Pant’s name on it. No client, we are very serious.
If there was ever a chance to give the dynamic left-hander the full reign at the top of the order, this is it. Pant at the top opening with absolutely no fear, taking the powerplays by the scruff. It feels right, doesn’t it?
Let’s discuss why this seemingly outlandish move isn’t that wild at all.
Pant’s Season to Forget—But Not Yet Forgotten
Pant’s statistics this season have not exactly shouted “match-winner.” He has been inconsistent not only with his rhythm and timing but also with the flair that once made him one of the most dangerous batters in T20 cricket. When his strike rate drops below his average, and form has been missed, Pant has been a mere shell of himself.
But that is the thing about class—it doesn’t disappear; it just needs a catalyst to reappear. As we saw in his last game—a very brief six-ball cameo, where he reminded everyone (the fans and the bowlers) of his dynamism as an explosive player, one shot – a traditional flick over mid-wicket – reignited the sense of possibility.
At times, a simple change in position is enough to help a player truly change their mindset. For Pant, opening the batting allows him to take his time, settle in, set the tempo, and escape the turmoil of the middle-order that has led to his inconsistent form. Moreover, with no Markram available, LSG requires someone to take responsibility early in the innings, and there is no one better to do that than an exuberant and furious Pant.
Freedom at the Top: A Batting Order Shake-Up LSG Needs
To be frank, LSG’s top order has been satisfactory, but not spectacular. Markram’s absence not only creates a gap but also presents an opportunity for creativity. By slotting Pant into the opener position, he will be batting against the new, hard ball, which will play to his hard-hitting game. Most importantly, batting top order leaves the pressure on the middle order, as he has since struggled to build innings instead of rescuing them.
Pant as an opener gives LSG a proper left-right combination up top (especially if he is paired with someone like KL Rahul or De Kock), to mess with the opposition’s plans and force early changes in the bowling lineup. It also sends a clear signal: LSG is not a cautious side; they are going to rock the boat and back their heavy artillery.
A Final Flourish—Or the Beginning of a New Chapter?
Should this be LSG’s last game of the season, it is Pant’s last chance to impress before the end. Not only does it provide personal redemption, but it also provides LSG management something to think about for next season. A fast 60 off 30 balls doesn’t just help his statistics, it changes the conversation on form, confidence, and future direction.
So, Should Pant Open?
Definitely. There’s a route for Rishabh Pant to take charge at the top with Markram unavailable and finally be able to take full control the way we know he can do. This is an unpressurised situation with potential high rewards – not just for him but for a team looking to transform its game mindset.
So, what’s your verdict- should Pant have the nod to open and regain his magic, or is it too much of a risk? Let us know your thoughts below. Let’s talk cricket.
