Is This Finally the Year RCB Fans, It Might Be Time to Dream Again

If you’ve been an RCB fan for long enough, you’ve probably aged five years for each IPL season. You’ve experienced heartbreak, you’ve experienced “almost,” and you’ve long witnessed collapses that make absolutely no sense. Having beaten Chennai Super Kings consecutively in the same season (never happened before), it begs the question: are RCB finally going all the way this year? Or, again, are we all boarding this seemingly unavoidable emotional rollercoaster with blind faith and optimism? Let’s look into why this time, maybe, just maybe, it’s different.

The Ghosts Have Been Exorcised (Yes, We’re Looking at You, Yash Dayal)

Now, he is making big throws in big situations late in games. Dayal delivered and stood and delivered for RCB over CSK, ultimately winning by two runs after suffering a massive collapse, but now stands adjusted with chutzpah to declare that this team is not just dying, but changing.

All credit to Rajat Patidar, who has evolved into a silent assassin in the middle order. While all the investigations are on the big guns like Faf, Virat, and Maxwell, it’s these “unsung heroes” that are winning matches. A depth and redemption arc like this screams something absent from RCB for years – mental steel.

Bowling Deaths and Rebirths

Death bowling has long been the downfall of RCB, and its fans know that narrative all too well: batters get 200+ and the bowlers eventually crumble like biscuits in a hot cup of tea. This season, however, there looks to be a change. In their match against CSK, RCB only went for 54 runs in the last five overs, which is quite the accomplishment given they were up against power hitters.

A 3 for 13 from the Pears’ (Phehlukwayo) in a 200+ match? Wow. You’d think this is a spell you’d get off Josh Hazlewood, and RCB didn’t miss him? That’s massive!

Bowling depth has finally matched the batting firepower; after both fires, you’re not thinking ‘can we qualify?’, you are thinking ‘trophy’. And with the Chinnaswamy pitches being so true and dry, the bowlers have been able to plan every intricacy.

Momentum, Mindset, and the Magic Number

Now let’s talk about stats. Most importantly, they are now in the top two of the points table, and those who have some IPL experience will know what that means. The top two have a bit of a lifeline in the playoffs.

More important is the momentum. Winning tight games produces something in a team – it instills belief. And belief is precisely what is missing for RCB fans and players. Danny Morrison said it best in the post-match chat: “They’ve been dreaming for 17 years.” But dreaming along with results?

For many years, RCB fans have oscillated between hope and heartbreak. However, the story this season appears to be changing from emotional buy-in to actual output. RCB have genuinely pulled off the fortnight of crazy finishes, exorcised the demons of their previous heartbreaks, and also finally appear to have the bowling support to back up the batting order under pressure.

So, is it now time to dream? Perhaps. Perhaps this time we will not fool ourselves into thinking we are witnessing a false dawn. Perhaps, just perhaps, it has also become a dream that resembles reality.

Of course, this is RCB – so dream whilst keeping your eye on the prize. What do you think – is everything coming together for RCB in 2025?
