Serving as captain in the IPL is a balancing act – controlling egos, managing pressure, and sometimes, playing some fireworks with the bat. Over the years, a select few IPL captains have gone ‘beast mode’ and produced some incredible centuries worthy of being remembered, and one of those captains is Rishabh Pant, who scored an amazing century even though his team was falling apart. Let us take a look at the top 5 individual highest scores from an IPL captain, with some flair, fury, and all-out dominance
Rishabh Pant – 119 vs RCB (2025)
Rishabh Pant came into the match with a quiet bat, plenty of questions about his form. But against RCB, the lion in Pant roared back to life with a feisty 119 from 56 balls–11 fours, 8 sixes, and sheer purpose. Pant came in at No. 3, and from ball one looked like the Pant of old, playing ludicrous scoops and effortless lofted drives.
While Pant’s innings took LSG to a score of 226, RCB ultimately completed the highest successful run chase in IPL history thanks to a freak innings from Jitesh Sharma. To Pant, though, this century wasn’t merely digits; it was redemption written large.
David Warner – 126 vs KKR (2017)
David Warner was a terror in 2017, and his 126 off 59 balls against KKR was vintage Warner – high pace, high damage. He struck 10 fours and 8 sixes and ensured that SRH totaled 209.
He hit KKR so hard that they couldn’t recover at any stage and lost by 48 runs. It remains the highest score by an overseas IPL captain, and a demonstration of the damage Warner inflicted as an opening batsman and captain.
KL Rahul – 132 vs RCB (2020)
As the highest score ever by an IPL skipper, Rahul’s innings wasn’t just classy—it was a captain’s clinic in controlled destruction. Rahul had the perfect tempo to his innings – starting steadily and finishing off with a massive bang – 14 fours and 7 sixes in total.
His knock helped Kings XI Punjab to 206, and RCB were bowled out for just 109 in a 97-run demolition job.
Virender Sehwag – 119 vs Deccan Chargers (2011)
Virender Sehwag was meant to play cavalierly, and a hurricane he did create in 2011. It was a top-order tumble until Sehwag stepped in, chewing gum, bat in hand, ready to turn wreckage into a run-fest.
Sehwag scored 119 off 56 balls before he was out, targeting anything too slow or too wide, with a distinct intent. He did not finish the chase, but the reckless innings left no doubt as to the validity of the victory. Sehwag was chaos, glorious chaos.
Sanju Samson – 119 vs PBKS (2021)
Sanju Samson’s 119 in 2021 was both splendid and cruel. He anchored RR’s innings while chasing down 222 with flair, grace, and clean hitting. However, with 5 to win off the last ball, he designed to make it glorious while not getting the big hit.
If it was a loss, it was enough of an innings of grace and timed hitting that will stay with you. It was a reminder that in rhythm, correspondingly, Samson could be uniquely amazing to watch.
These knocks weren’t simply about personal milestones; they were moments of determination, leadership, and greatness. Whether it’s Pant’s revival of form, Warner’s brilliance, or Rahul’s accuracy, all of these captains reminded us that sometimes to lead from the front, you have to swing for the fences.
