3 Players Who Could Fix Gujarat Titans in 2026

Another IPL season, another disappointing exit for the Gujarat Titans. For most of the IPL, GT appeared to be title favorites with both the Orange Cap and Purple Cap in their roster. However, two dramatic losses late in the league stage as well as a knockout blow at the hands of the Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator, contributed to this table-turning. How does a team this strong not succeed when it counts? That is the riddle GT is to solve.

Bring Back the Finishing Firepower – David Miller

We should begin with the most obvious necessity: GT needs a reliable finisher. Who better to perform the finishing obligations than a man who already helped them win the 2022 trophy? David Miller struggled in 2025 at LSG, where he only scored 153 runs in 11 games, but there’s just no getting past his history with GT.

During their golden run, Miller was the glue in the middle order for GT. Miller’s composure in high-pressure situations, experience in tight finishes, and capacity to play big towards the end of the innings were exactly what GT missed this season. Yes, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler carried the weight at the top of the order—but once they were gone, it looked as if a car had stalled on the highway.

Upgrade the All-Round Department – Sam Curran

Trading for Miller would fill a slot and bring some balance back to their batting unit. And if GT played clever, they could do a trade by offering a foreign pacer (of similar quality to Kagiso Rabada) in return, which is something that LSG needs after a poor bowling season.

GT has leaned on Arshad Khan as a utility player this season, and while Khan didn’t disappoint (six wickets at over ten runs an over and averaging just 11.5 with the bat), Curran would offer an upgrade in every aspect. His upside includes swinging the new ball, bowling tight overs, and then hitting powerful finishes. Curran would be a luxury in all three areas of the game.

With someone like Ashish Nehra, who understands how to work with left-arm pace bowling assets, Curran could find a revival. GT doesn’t require just celebrities – they need players who can contribute to various aspects of the game when the going gets tough (which includes batting and bowling at a decent level). Curran fits in that category perfectly.

The Old Guard Still Has Fuel – Mohammed Shami

It’s quite simple to ignore an ageing fast bowler with a bad season under their belt. But if there is one guy you can never bet against, it’s Mohammed Shami. Sure, his 2025 season with SRH was terrible – only ever nine wickets at a monumental economy of 11.23 – but GT fans could attest to what Shami does when he’s in the rhythm, and on that Ahmedabad surface.

Shami took 48 wickets combined over the last two years for GT, and he was the bellwether of their pace attack. He knows the franchise, the pitch, and how to execute under pressure. If GT can move Shami in a low-cost trade, it’s a low-risk, high-reward trade that could strengthen their pace attack.

Gujarat Titans are not far from being crowned champions a second time. The base is solid, but the framework needs to be bolstered. Trading in some experienced veterans like David Miller and Mohammed Shami, and a dynamic wildcard like Sam Curran, could be the difference between another “almost” season and a championship parade.

The IPL off-season is the time when champions are made. Will GT make the bold moves necessary? Or will be back here next year, speaking of what could have been?
