SA vs IND (3rd ODI) – Highlights

The third One Day International between India and South Africa at Visakhapatnam turned into a celebration of Indian dominance as the hosts cruised to a comprehensive nine-wicket victory. What promised to be a competitive contest after a century from Quinton de Kock was dismantled by a clinical Indian batting display, led by a magnificent unbeaten hundred from young Yashasvi Jaiswal. The match, which served as the series finale, highlighted the depth of the Indian lineup and their ability to chase down totals with remarkable ease under lights.

SA began their innings with early jitters after losing Ryan Rickelton for a duck in the first over to Arshdeep Singh. However, the visitors stabilised their innings through a solid partnership between captain Temba Bavuma and the experienced Quinton de Kock. De Kock was in sublime touch, anchoring the innings with aggressive stroke play. He compiled a brilliant 106 off 89 balls, smashing eight boundaries and six sixes. His partnership with Bavuma, who made a gritty 48, threatened to take the game away from IND as they laid a strong foundation for a total well in excess of 300 runs.

The momentum shifted drastically once the Indian bowlers found their rhythm in the middle overs. The introduction of spin and the return of pace proved fatal for the Proteas. Kuldeep Yadav spun a web around the middle order, claiming four crucial wickets, while Prasidh Krishna mirrored the effort with four scalps of his own. The SA middle order failed to capitalise on the platform set by De Kock, with players like Aiden Markram and Matthew Breetzke falling cheaply. From a commanding position, the visitors lost wickets in clusters, eventually folding for 270 in 47.5 overs, a total that felt under par on a good batting surface.

IND’s response was nothing short of emphatic. Openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal walked out with clear intent, dismantling the South African pace attack. Rohit Sharma was in vintage form, scoring a fluent 75 off 73 balls, peppering the boundary with seven fours and three sixes. The duo put on a massive 155-run opening stand that effectively killed the contest. By the time Rohit was dismissed by Keshav Maharaj, the required run rate had dropped significantly, allowing the incoming batters to play with freedom.

Following Rohit’s departure, Virat Kohli joined Jaiswal, and the pair ensured there were no further hiccups. Jaiswal continued his maturation as a top-order batter, pacing his innings perfectly to finish on 116 not out from 121 deliveries. On the other end, Kohli was in a hurry to finish proceedings, blasting an unbeaten 65 off just 45 balls. His aggressive cameo, which included three sixes, helped India chase down the target of 271 with more than ten overs to spare. Jaiswal was named Player of the Match for his match-winning century, while Kohli took home the Player of the Series award for his consistent run-scoring throughout the tour.
