IND vs SA (2nd ODI) – Highlights

South Africa pulled off a sensational four-wicket victory over India in the second ODI at Raipur after chasing down a massive target of 359 with just four balls to spare, in what will go down as one of the most dramatic run chases between the two sides. Under lights, the match turned into a pure batting spectacle, dominated by hundreds from Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and a match-defining counterattack from Aiden Markram.

IND innings began on shaky ground as captain Rohit Sharma departed early for 14, followed soon after by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who struggled to find fluency before holing out for 22. From 62 for 2, India needed stability and momentum, and they found both through a powerful partnership between Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Kohli anchored one end with a composed 102 off 93 balls, while Gaikwad was far more aggressive, racing to 105 from just 83 deliveries. Their stand transformed the innings and pushed the scoring rate into overdrive. After both set batters fell in quick succession, KL Rahul took full control of the death overs, smashing an unbeaten 66 off 43 balls. Supported by Ravindra Jadeja’s calm 24 not out, India surged to an imposing 358 for 5, a total that looked more than competitive even on a good Raipur surface.

SA’s reply began poorly with Quinton de Kock dismissed early, but Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma rebuilt with authority. Bavuma’s steady 46 laid the platform before Markram took complete charge of the chase. His 110 off 98 balls was a masterclass in controlled aggression, blending classical strokeplay with calculated power. After Markram fell, Matthew Breetzke kept SA firmly in the contest with a brisk 68, but the game still tilted back and forth as wickets fell at crucial moments.

The real momentum swing came through Dewald Brevis, whose explosive 54 from just 34 balls changed the tone of the chase entirely. His assault ensured the required rate never spiraled out of control despite India’s bowlers striking intermittently. When Brevis fell, and Marco Jansen followed soon after, IND briefly sensed an opening. However, Corbin Bosch played a nerveless finishing role, remaining unbeaten on 29 from 15 balls, while Keshav Maharaj held his nerve at the other end. The winning runs arrived in the final over, sealing South Africa’s remarkable chase at 362 for 6 in 49.2 overs.

Aiden Markram was named Player of the Match for his vital century that laid the foundation for the successful pursuit. Despite India’s bowlers picking up wickets, they struggled to contain the scoring under sustained pressure, especially in the middle and death overs.
