BAN vs WI (3rd ODI) – Highlights
Bangladesh produced a clinical all-round performance in Mirpur to dismantle the West Indies by a staggering 179 runs in the third and final ODI, sealing the series 2–1. It was a night of dominance for the Tigers, built on a commanding opening partnership, sharp spin bowling, and a team spirit that looked revived and ruthless.
After being asked to bat first, Bangladesh’s top order set the tone early. Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar unleashed an exhibition of controlled aggression and smart rotation of strikes. The pair added 176 runs for the opening wicket, Bangladesh’s best in recent memory. Saif’s 80 off 72 balls was a statement innings crisp drives, effortless sixes, and a calm tempo that gave the hosts a solid foundation. At the other end, Soumya Sarkar looked in sublime touch, rediscovering the flair that once made him one of Bangladesh’s most exciting white-ball openers. His 91 from 86 balls was a blend of clean timing and sharp awareness, earning him the Player of the Match award.
Once the openers departed in quick succession, Bangladesh’s middle order stumbled slightly. Towhid Hridoy and Najmul Hossain Shanto steadied things with brief contributions, while Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz added a handy 17 towards the end. Nurul Hasan’s late cameo an unbeaten 16 off just eight deliveries ensured BAN reached a competitive total of 296 for 8 in their 50 overs. The West Indian bowlers had few answers to the early onslaught. Akeal Hosein was the lone bright spot, finishing with an excellent 4 for 41, while Roston Chase and Gudakesh Motie chipped in with a wicket each.
Chasing 297 under the lights, the WI innings fell apart before it could even begin. Nasum Ahmed’s left-arm spin proved too much for the top order, as he ripped through the visitors’ lineup with figures of 3 for 11 in six overs. The dismissals of Athanaze, King, and Auguste left the West Indies reeling at 28 for 3, and from there, the collapse became inevitable. Tanvir Islam joined the act with two wickets, including the prized scalp of Captain Shai Hope, who never settled in during his short stay.
Rishad Hossain, the emerging leg-spinner who has been BAN’s breakout star this series, continued his golden run. He picked up three wickets for 54, mixing flight and accuracy beautifully to trap the middle order. His performances throughout the series 12 wickets and valuable lower-order runs earned him the Player of the Series award, underlining his growing stature in Bangladesh cricket.
The WI innings eventually folded for 117 in just 30.1 overs, with only Akeal Hosein showing any resistance through a brisk 27 off 15 balls. Bangladesh’s bowlers shared the honors, but the defining feature was their collective discipline. Every overbuilt pressure, every field placement felt intentional, and the energy in the field reflected a side eager to dominate.
