Cricket Highlights, July 20: Zimbabwe Twenty20 Tri-Series 2025 (4th Match) – ZIM vs SA

ZIM vs SA (4th Match) – Highlights

It was South Africa’s match to lose, as the Proteas dominated, beating ZIM by seven wickets in the fourth match of the Zimbabwe T20 Tri-Series 2025 in Harare on July 20. South Africa won comfortably, chasing a modest target of 145 (Zimbabwe: 144/8), winning with 16 balls to spare thanks to an innings of 63 from only 36 balls from Rubin Hermann.

ZIM, after being put into bat, started cautiously but lost early wickets that kept them from accelerating. Wessly Madhevere fell in the fourth over for 13, followed soon by Clive Madande, who couldn’t capitalize on his start. Brian Bennett was the standout performer for Zimbabwe, playing a fluent and aggressive innings of 61 off 43 balls, decorated with seven boundaries and three sixes. His knock was the backbone of the Zimbabwean innings, holding the fort amid regular dismissals at the other end.

A brave 36 from 31 from Ryan Burl settled the innings, but never showed the explosive finish expected. Zimbabwe posted 144/6 from their 20 overs – a total that, with the opposing fielders pushed up, always felt slightly sub-par on a pitch that was there to be scored on.

SA bowlers shared the workload smartly. Corbin Bosch was the most effective, finishing with figures of 4-0-16-2 and playing a key role in stifling the hosts during the middle overs. Nandre Burger and Lungi Ngidi bowled with control, while Nqabayomzi Peter and Simelane supported well at the death.

The start of SA innings was far from ideal, as both openers fell early. Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Reeza Hendricks failed to make an impact, leaving the visitors at 22/2 inside five overs. But from there, Rassie van der Dussen and Rubin Hermann orchestrated a match-defining partnership.

Hermann, who was later adjudged Player of the Match, was explosive from the outset. He unleashed an array of strokes, clearing the ropes with authority and putting pressure back on Zimbabwe’s bowlers. His 63 off 36 balls included three fours and four sixes and came at a critical juncture when South Africa needed momentum. His aggressive intent allowed van der Dussen to play the anchor role, compiling a composed 52* from 41 balls.

The duo stitched together a 106-run partnership, virtually sealing the game before Hermann eventually fell to Richard Ngarava in the 16th over. Dewald Brevis came in and finished things quickly with a 13-run cameo off 7 balls as South Africa reached the target in 17.2 overs.

The victory gives South Africa solid momentum going into the final stretch of the series. Zimbabwe, meanwhile, will rue their inability to capitalize on a decent start and their struggles with the ball in the middle overs.
