BHR vs BHU (2nd T20I) – Highlights

Bahrain produced a commanding all-around performance to defeat hosts Bhutan by 63 runs in the second T20I at the Gelephu international cricket ground on December 9, 2025. In a match defined by Bahrain’s middle-order resilience and a clinical bowling display, the visitors leveled the playing field with a competitive total before dismantling the Bhutanese batting lineup. The victory was set up by a solid team batting effort and sealed by the brilliance of Player of the Match Imran Khan, who’s bowling spell proved too much for the home side to handle.

After being asked to bat, BHR faced an immediate setback when opener Asif Ali was dismissed for a duck in the very first over by Tenzin Wangchuk. However, the visitors did not let the early wicket derail their plans. Wicketkeeper Prashant Kurup and Fiaz Ahmed reconstructed the innings with sensible batting. Kurup struck five boundaries in his 27 off 25 balls, while Ahmed rotated the strike effectively for his 30. Their partnership laid the foundation for Captain Ahmer Bin Nasir, who played the defining knock of the innings. Nasir scored a composed 41 off 34 deliveries, including two sixes, anchoring the innings through the middle overs while Junaid Aziz chipped in with a brisk 18.

The death overs saw a flurry of activity, starting with a destructive cameo from Naveena Shetty, who smashed 20 runs off just 7 balls to push the run rate above seven per over. However, the Bhutanese bowlers fought back late in the game. Sonam Yeshey bowled a spectacular spell, claiming four wickets for 31 runs. The 19th over was particularly dramatic, witnessing multiple wickets falling as Bahrain looked to accelerate. Despite the late collapse, Bahrain finished on 152 for 9, a total that looked formidable on this surface.

Chasing 153 for victory, BHU began with intent but failed to sustain partnerships. Captain Thinley Jamtsho looked dangerous early on, scoring a rapid 16 off 9 balls with three boundaries, but his stumping off the bowling of Abdul Majid triggered a slide from which the hosts never recovered. The BHR bowlers applied a stranglehold on the scoring rate, with Abdul Majid delivering a remarkably economical spell of 1 for 11 from his four overs. The pressure of the required run rate led to risky running, resulting in two costly run-outs that further destabilized the Bhutanese chase.

Jigme Singye tried to hold the innings together with a fighting 19 off 20 balls, but wickets continued to tumble at the other end. The introduction of Imran Khan effectively ended the contest. Khan was lethal with his line and length, claiming 3 wickets for just 10 runs in his three overs. Asif Shaikh supported him well, cleaning up the lower order to finish with figures of 3 for 26. BHU crumbled under the relentless pressure, collapsing to 89 all out in 17.2 overs. The 63-run margin of victory highlighted the gap between the two sides on the day, with Bahrain outplaying the hosts in every department.
