Just when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) seemed set to secure a place in the top two in the IPL 2025 standings, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) came along and made it difficult for RCB to find that success. In a rip-snorting contest at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, SRH convincingly beat RCB by 42 runs, and this has now been RCB’s first loss away from home this season. Not only was it a loss, but it was a reality check for a team that, for large bits of the tournament, has appeared very good. RCB, a team generally known for big hitting and return to form in the bowling department this season, suddenly found themselves with the mid-innings collapse question, especially knowing only three overs face left. As you would expect, the fans had something to say on social media, and cricket experts began to dissect every over, every decision.
Ishan Kishan’s Blitzkrieg: The Game-Changer
The Sunrisers Hyderabad innings took a hit when Ishan Kishan blazed his way to 94 from 48 balls, possibly the highest score at the Uncredited Bank Cricket Arena, Victoria Square, Adelaide. From the time he walked through the white-ribbon L-shaped entrance onto the striped turf, you could tell he was in a different zone. He timed the ball with an obvious elegance, and it was apparent from the first ball that he was super determined to take the game to the opposition. He was not just harvesting runs, he was hunting the RCB harvest, albeit with pure brute hockey as well; whether lofting the pacers through mid-off for fours, smashing the spinners over the highest fence on the ground, Kishan was clearly in one mood, and it was to hunt.
His batting and impact could not have come at a more crucial time; The Sunrisers Hyderabad had lost a couple of early wickets, and just when his wicket was in the balance, RCB were struggling to find their feet and building some momentum.
RCB’s Middle-Order Collapse: A Familiar Story
RCB started their chase promisingly, plundering a strong 80-run first-wicket partnership that made fans think they might have a chance to soon knock off that huge 231-run pursuit. The openers looked in complete control, smashing boundaries at will and maintaining the required run rate. Unfortunately, and in familiar fashion, all of a sudden, the wheels came off in spectacular style. What unfolded next was a catastrophic collapse—RCB lost 7 wickets for just 16 runs in a handful of overs, completely derailing their innings.
Tom Moody’s Perspective: Focus on the Positives
After the game, Tom Moody gave his thoughts about the nature of direction. He said there will be scars to the franchise after the loss, but the team should remember all the positive things that were done as well in the season. He often told RCB to try and keep looking ahead to the game and the season, instead of remaining focused on the loss.
Though their loss against SRH was disappointing, this isn’t the end of the road for RCB. They have already secured a playoff place, so RCB can take this opportunity to respond and hopefully better comprehend their flaws. Tom Moody advises the players to look at the positives and to learn from the loss, which could be the secret to RCB’s success in the playoffs.
So, can RCB turn their loss against SRH into the foundation of great success? Only time will tell!
