Mehidy Hasan’s PSL Mission: One Match, One Dream, One Comeback

Wow, what a twist! Just when we thought the Lahore Qalandars were out of reinforcements for the PSL 2025 playoffs, here comes Mehidy Hasan Miraz to add a new twist on an otherwise well-timed novel! The Bangladesh allrounder has officially joined the Qalandars’ camp and is set to come to Lahore by Tuesday to immerse himself in the team just before their Eliminator on Thursday. It could just be one game but for Mehidy, this is more than just a cameo; it is a statement. With the future of T20I return in mind, this could become the PSL fix he has been looking for!

Mehidy’s PSL Stint: A Short-Term Gig with Long-Term Goals

Let’s face it, playing potentially one match in a high-stakes playoff game is not the best situation for 99% of cricketers. But Mehidy is not doing this for fame and/or financial gains. With Bangladesh’s T20I squad currently playing UAE and preparing for the Pakistan series, Mehidy’s name is absent, and this PSL experience will allow him to prove he still belongs in the shortest format.

Now, while his T20I record doesn’t yet scream ‘match-winner’, he has delivered consistent performances in the BPL. He has developed as a bowling allrounder and provides additional tactical advantage with his off-spin and lower-order batting. If he can deliver even one match-winning performance under pressure, the selectors will be sure to notice from home.

Teaming Up with Shakib: A Familiar Face in a New Arena

An additional intriguing development in this story? Mehidy will once again link up with his experienced colleague Shakib Al Hasan. The pair has shared the Bangladesh dressing room for many years, and now they will attempt to reverse the Qalandars’ playoff outcome together.

Shakib has not made the ideal start to his PSL 2025 – his first-ball duck and expensive spell with the ball against Peshawar Zalmi would have been forgotten quickly. However, with Mehidy in the squad, he will have one less thing to worry about, a second spin option, and potentially a rhythm and understanding developed over multiple training sessions and matches. A plan change mid-innings, or even just a trusted partner in the squad, can work wonders in what can be a pressured environment.

Qalandars are missing some of their overseas players, like David Wiese and Sam Billings so Mehidy can provide some much-needed balance. With Raza heading off for national duty, Mehidy now has a golden chance to step up and make that spot his own.

One Game to Prove a Point: The Underdog Narrative

The notion of a cricketer playing for redemption is universally appealing. Mehidy, who arrived late to the tournament with no guarantee of more than one match, fits into the classic underdog narrative style. However, that also means the pressure is off, strangely. If he succeeds in his outing, he becomes a hero; if he fails, it will still be a good experience and a chance to find his rhythm again.

In the case of the Qalandars, who have experienced a turbulent season interrupted by player absences due to injury, travel, and off-field distractions, it is just the injection of fresh energy from a player keen to prove a point that they need.

Mehidy Hasan’s arrival at Lahore Qalandars is more than an opportunity to fill a space on a roster — he is playing for ambition, redemption, and to take advantage of an opportunity of a lifetime. The purpose is obvious; regardless of whether he even gets to play a second match, he is here to show everyone what he is capable of doing, and, hopefully, maybe, just maybe, to find a way back into Bangladesh’s T20I plans.
